Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
Works a bit slow atm so I rung up one of these car delivery places and a few weeks ago Ocado to drive one of their vans.

They wanted

Passport
Driving licence
Proof of address
Photo
Next of kin name and address
Bank account

This was BEFORE I was offered the job.

Told them I am happy to come I got an interview and bring all the paperwork with me and I wasn’t happy about giving just about everything that they needed for ID theft to an email.

They haven’t replied as yet.

What happened to turning up, having a chat and starting Monday? Only want 5/8 days a month driving a car/van. It’s hardly rocket science or high risk.

Just seems a bit dodgy volunteering all that info to an anonymous email,

It’s the nature of the shitty fucking big brother automated everything online world that we now live in. Cunts

Re: Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
I fear this is the nature of the world we live in now. Most companies I know have a (mostly) generic recruitment system.

This 'asks' all applicants for all jobs for the same, comprehensive information. This approach also covers the company in case they are ever accused of failing to check/gather everything that may or may not be relevant.

It's actually easier, faster and cheaper for them to just ask everyone for everything, rather than spend the time and effort tailoring each application requirement to what is really needed for each position.

Son number 2 applied for a holiday job in a garden centre several years back. He had to go through their whole online system as if he was applying to be the MD.

I think the way to deal with it is to just grin and shake your head to yourself at the ridiculous nature of 'modern ways'.

Where did you get the contact details for this job? It seems irregular to need these things up front and I would suspect a scam.

You would take your passport to the interview and supply bank details to HR, but definitely never online.

About 2004/5 I went for a job with Banhams alarms, this involved going into peoples houses with their keys and knowing the alarm codes.

Rang up for the job, was told to come in for an interview,(bringing all relevant paperwork) waited a week for the CRB check and started working.

Point is, I didn’t have to give any information to an email address, was all done face to face.

It’s a bit like when the bank ring you and ask for a password. I always hang up and call them back.

Might be an age thing I suppose.

When I applied to drive for a competitor I had to stick documents online to be verified, have a Criminal Records Check and take documents in to the interview, all prior to being offered the job., Thought it was a bit over kill at the time, especially as when I worked in schools you just took a few into the interview and CRB checks etc would be after being offered the post. Might just be a case of they need someone to start asap whereas with schools the offer tended to be for the new term, so less of a rush so to speak.

Ocado is employed, the car delivery is self employed.

Only booked for 13 days in May so far, just looking to top it up a bit.

Its to do with insurance and tax and red tape and all that other shit. Just a sign of the times like needing to create an account and memorise a password every time you do anything.

Also if Ocado are anything like Uber or Amazon then you might technically be self employed, or something.

The days of just showing up and asking for a job and them saying "yes" and getting paid cash no questions askes aren't long gone at all, just go round some of your local take-aways, they're always looking for drivers

The missus works in recruitment.

First 3 on the list are reasonable, especially driving license as is a driving job.
Photo shouldn't be required as they're already asking for your passport.
Next of kin and bank account details aren't really required until you've been offered the job (unless they're making sure no money laundering may be taking place with regard to bank details).

HTH.

It is a lot of info, and if it was some faceless company or a bloke down the pub I'd agree that it was a bit weird, but this is Ocado. What do you think they're going to do?

Re: Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
Yeah sounds OTT
Should take your word you’ve got a clean license and a bank account, bring a photo ID and we’ll have a chat! Documents of Proof after getting the job! Maybe because it’s Ocado they have high standards

I’m talking about driving a van or delivering new cars. Not a lawyer or doctor

Just seems they want to much info up front.

Re: Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
I suppose they are filtering time wasters, but usually it’s cv interview, offer the job and then ask for all that info

Re: Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
Come on joe, what do you think they're going to do with that, really?

At the same time as applying for a job, you've marked yourself as being a bit awkward.

Re: Anyone applied for a (temp) job recently?
Proof of identity which proves your right to work yes before an interview is normal but I'd say you shouldn't have to give them your bank account details....
